Green Operations Series: Engaging Employees & Marketing the Sustainable Mission

Session Description

This presentation will examine a hospital’s various stakeholder groups and identify ways to successfully communicate with each of them. It will also review common obstacles to employee engagement and discuss tactics for overcoming them to create a sustainability program which successfully engages employees.

During this presentation, we will explore the different written, electronic and interpersonal communication mechanisms used within the healthcare setting, as well as ways to externally market your sustainability efforts. Using as a baseline the programs and tools we have developed to create an effective communication strategy at Inova Health System, it will discuss the path and roadblocks to successfully implementing a communication plan within your organization. It will further discuss how to present your message and what information to share.

Participants will leave with a practical understanding of the mechanisms they can use to successfully plan and host events, communicate achievements, goals and priorities, create and grow a functional green team, ensure employees and other key stakeholders, as well as the larger community are properly educated, and encourage employee ownership of their sustainability program.
