CM14B7-Healthy Environment, Healthy Community

Session Description

This session will focus on how members of the Catholic Health Association have worked with community members to improve community health by addressing environmental factors. These facilities have engaged community members in the assessment of community needs and strengths and formed partnerships to implement environment-related activities, including neighborhood based community gardens and food markets, landscaping and beautification enterprises, development and restoration of walking trails, corner store food assessment and produce stocking options, and re-development of dilapidated properties for housing and economic development with social and ecological footprint considerations. All this has been pursued through community based leadership and collaboration among resident groups, anchor organizations, and city government entities.
