Hear from Health Care Without Harm’s Scott Slotterback as well as well as Hermine Levey Weston. Hermine will introduce the recording and be available for questions, time permitting.

Presenters

Scott Slotterback, Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Policy Director, Health Care Without Harm As Policy Director, Scott Slotterback assures the smooth functioning of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals network while helping lead its ongoing development. He also plays a central role in building the technical capacity of the Network. Scott Slotterback comes to this role after working for over 30 years on complex building and land use planning projects, including a decade at Kaiser Permanente, where he led teams focused on improving the design and sustainability of over 60 major healthcare buildings. He authored numerous sustainability focused case studies, design standards, white papers, and articles. He also presented sustainability at numerous national and international conferences and served on the Steering Committee that wrote the Green Guide for Healthcare, which became the basis for LEED for Healthcare.

Gail Lee, REHS, MS, HEM, Director, Sustainability, University of California San Francisco

Gail Lee, REHS, MS, HEM has 30 years of experience in healthcare, environmental health and safety in public, non-profit, and private industries. After 5 years of service, Gail Lee was promoted in 2015 from Sustainability Manager to the Director at the University of California San Francisco where she provides support for both the campus and the medical center. She provides thoughtful leadership, creativity, and lends an experienced perspective on a variety matters related to sustainability including waste reduction, greenhouse gas emissions, toxics reduction and water conservation. She currently leads the efforts to make UCSF a national model for sustainability in academic health sciences. Gail's particular interest lies in helping health care institutions, known for their 24/7 operations and large waste-generating activities, reduce their environmental impact. Her background includes work as the Environmental Health and Safety Director at Mills Peninsula Health Services, a 393 bed hospital, as program lead for the Groundwater Protection Program at the County of San Mateo. Prior to UCSF, she served as the sustainable operations manager for the multiple international sites of Autodesk, a software company. She served twice as a-co-chair of the healthcare track of the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference, chair of the UCSF Transportation Advisory Committee, is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist and a Certified Healthcare Environmental Manager. Gail holds a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley and a master's degree in Environmental Management from the University of San Francisco.
