Greening the OR: Energy Efficient Operating Rooms

Session Description

Today, engineering systems are being challenged both from a first cost and life cycle cost perspective. Hence, the goal is provide nimble, yet responsive systems that improve efficiency and efficacy including with existing installations. Technology has evolved to that very point where more scientific data and evidence based designs exist to right size equipment coupled with a paradigm shift that “more” is always better, and in many cases has proven to be the opposite, preventing systems from being overdesigned or under-utilized and still provide just what is necessary when it is needed.

Learning Objectives

Attendees will learn practical ways to improve efficiency and efficacy in the OR through:

  • Improved comfort for the surgical team and the patient
  • Improved environment for the facility
  • Energy efficiency best practices
  • Maintainable and controllable systems and components
