By considering a total cost of ownership (TCO) evaluation before purchasing diagnostic and other capital equipment, healthcare facilities can help ensure that these purchases support their larger environmental impact and sustainability goals. Since the departments that bear the ongoing operational cost of equipment may be different than those who are responsible for procurement, internal processes may not be aligned to encourage accountability for lifecycle cost analysis during when making purchasing decisions. Most suppliers do not have a common TCO measurement system and the purchasing organization will need to know how to ask for this information during their RFP process. This session will provide participants with an understanding of the TCO concept and detailed case studies based on implementation strategies.
